In this story about Canadian province of British Columbia's Premier Gordon Campbell the Norwegian journalist writes that he is the "Prime Minister" and that the Canadian province of British Columbia is a "state." This is wrong. British Columbia is a province in located on the west coast of Canada, and is not a state. Canada does not have , and has never had states. Canada has been using the French system of provinces for 344 years since 1663, when Canada became a Royal Province of France. Mexico and the USA are the only two countries in North America with states, Canada does not. British Columbia was a British colony that chose to join Canada in 1871, as Canada's 6th province. In addition, the political leader of a Canadian province is called a "premier" not a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the national leader of all of Canada, not just a single province. The correct term in Norwegian for a Canadian premier is "førstminister."
