In this story the Norwegian journalist writes: "Det er også konklusjonen i en studie gjennomført av amerikanske psykologiprofessor Meredith Chivers." This is wrong. Meredith Chivers is Canadian, not American as the journalist writes, and lives and works in Canada. The American New York Times story correctly identifies the Canadian city - Kingston, and the Canadian province - Ontario, she is from and does not say she is an American. This is an excellent example of how Norwegian journalists just either guess or assume Canadians are Americans when Canadians are quoted in a an American story. If a Canadian news story writes about a Norwegian professor from Bergen or Oslo, should we write he or she is Swedish or German? To be correct is should say: "Det er også konklusjonen i en studie gjennomført av kanadiske psykologiprofessor Meredith Chivers." Many Norwegian news stories often give the Americans credit for the work of Canadian universities and Canadian researchers. Being quoted in an American newspaper doesn't make someone from the USA as you write.
