In this story the Canadian University of Alberta is written as being located in the USA. This is a mistake. The University of Alberta is located in the provincial capital of Edmonton in the Province of Alberta in Canada. For some reason the story states it is located in the USA, but it is located in Canada. An e-mail was sent to advise them of their mistake and no reply was received. A second e-mail was sent and no reply was received. On the 29th of August a third e-mail was sent stating NMW intent to file a complaint with the Norsk Presseforbund. A reply was received the next day with an apology and the story corrected. In fact, Godfisk went one better and even included the name of the Canadian city the university is located in. Too bad it took three e-mails to get a response. Are facts not checked before they are published? Was this guessing or assuming this Canadian university was in the USA? This is another example of where it is just assumed Canadian content is from the USA. Several of the posts on NMW are about the Norwegian press often locating Canadian cities, Canadian universities, Canadian culture (musicians, actors, etc.) as being in or from the USA instead of the country of Canada. Should Canadians and the Canadian media assume and write that everything that comes from Scandinavia comes from just Sweden?
