1) 132 millioner bruker Facebook (Bjørn B. Brøndbo) 1 September 2008

In this story the Norwegian journalist writes: "I USA er Facebook det fjerde største nettstedet målt etter trafikk. Nå har det 49 millioner unike besøkende i måneden [this is for North America, not USA alone]. Det er 38 prosent mer enn for et år siden [this is for North America, not USA alone]." Various other world media write:
1) "But Facebook's rise has been particularly quick: while it grew a modest 38 per cent in North America in the last year, it more than quadrupled its membership elsewhere; its unique visitors outside North America grew from about 16 million to 73 million." - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Canada) - Canada's version of the BBC or NRK in Norway
2) "If you break down Facebook's growth into regions, its presence in North America is still growing at a healthy 38 percent rate (with 49 million visitors a month)." - Washington Post (USA)
3) "The 131 million North American users of social networks signalled a growth of just 9%, compared to the 35% growth rate, which pushed the user base to 165 million visitors across Europe." AccuraCast (U.K.) Is this another example of how many in the Norwegian press think North America is just USA? If the Canadians, British, Americans, and other world newspapers can report the numbers correctly, then why can't some in the Norwegian press? The Norwegian journalist writes the numbers are for just the "USA" when the story makes reference to numbers for North America. Surely Norwegians are not taught in schools the USA is the only country in North America? What has been written is like a Canadian journalist taking numbers for all of Scandinavia, and just writing they are the numbers for just Sweden. After three e-mails to the journalist a reply was received, but not a correction made to the story, only a comment about the error by the author. Sadly, Canada is just an oversight to so many Norwegian journalists, despite Canada's size, status in the world as a G-8 nation, and home to the second largest number of people of Norwegian heritage outside of Norway. It very much seems that to many Norwegian journalists that the USA is the only country worth reporting about from North America. What does Canada and Canadians have to do to receive fairer treatment by some journalists in the Norwegian press?
